the great gatsby

Go, Carey! It’s your birthday! If your birthday brought one of the best moments in your career, anyway.

Carey Mulligan just won the role of Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann’s (yes!) version of The Great Gatsby, set to film in 2011.  She beat out actresses including Natalie Portman (blah), Keira Knightley, Scarlett Johansson, Amanda Seyfried, and even Michelle frickin’ Williams (who I’ve always thought Carey Mulligan really resembled…maybe it’s the pixie cut?).

According to MOVIE TALK, Mulligan received the news on the red carpet, of all places, and broke down in tears when her agent greeted her on the phone as “Daisy Buchanan.”

Carey was amazing in Never Let Me Go (if you haven’t seen it, do; it’s absolutely heart-wrenching) and An Education, and I think she is so poised and gorgeous. While I do kinda have a love/hate thing for Keira Knightley and think she’s particularly effective in period pieces, she already got to play one of the most well-loved literary females of all time, so I think Carey deserves a crack.

Oh, and her slated co-star as Jay Gatsby? The one and only Leonardo Dicaprio, aka My Favorite Actor Ever.

You go, girl.

new glasses

I’ve been needing to update my lens prescription for some time now, but I didn’t want to get them until I found some new frames I liked. I’ve found some decent discounts on designer ones. I like the vintage look, and I’m a big fan of tortoise. I also want them to be sturdier than my current ones, which have chunky plastic sides but thin wire around the lenses.

My top picks:

The top two and middle two are the same, just different color schemes. I was definitely leaning toward the top left one for the longest time, but now I’m considering the middle style. I’m a broke girl so it’s a big decision!
